Today I want to share the most fantastic stain remover in the whole wide world.
My grandmother told me this recipe when I was wracking her brain trying to figure out how to get gravy out of my shirt last thanksgiving. It worked like a charm and no one was any the wiser, just had a damp spot for an hour or two!
This remover also works to take out manure stains, grease stains, and even a nasty oil stain I had on my favorite purple coveralls.
So, forget buying Oxyclean, adjusting your scarf to cover an embarrassing food stain, or running clothes through your washing machine twice while praying to the laundry gods.
All you need for this remover is 3 ingredients you probably already have lying around your house. Alright, without further ado…
1 tsp. dawn dishwashing detergent – $2.45
3-4 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide – $1.29
2 tablespoons baking soda – $3.86
Combine all ingredients thoroughly. Apply directly to the stain and scrub in with a scrubbing brush for 1-2 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and voila!
Besides being incredibly effective, this treatment is cheap. Even if you don’t have these products already, the combined price is around $7-8 for the ability to treat hundreds of stains. Compare that to $12.48 for a box of Oxyclean, which may or may not be helpful, and that’s quite a deal!
